Really, think about it, are Stars born or are they made? It is hard to say which is true, but after observing the well known Josh Baskin – all of three months old mind you – "under the lights", we know of one star that was definitely born!
On October 19th, 2011, Josh Baskin arrived in New York City to the sound stages of the Animal Planet channel, where the crew was setting up to shoot the 2012 version of "Puppy Bowl" – the thinking person's alternative to the Super Bowl. Josh Baskin (known to those close to him as Baskin) took to the lights and the cameras instantly. It didn't hurt that as puppies go, especially those of how do we say it, "mixed" heritage, Baskin is one hell of a looker!
Baskin bounded onto the playing field and took a warm-up trot around before he was joined by the other players. Baskin immediately picked up on the fact that it was indeed his responsibility to get his co-stars into "character"; he ran; he nudged; he barked. Still not much movement, let alone ball playing, emerged from his co-stars.
Now, at this point, the facts get a bit cloudy but as reported in Variety, Baskin DID experience a bit of creative melt down and, indeed, some of the rumors of excessive humping are in fact, true! Creative types are sensitive and sometimes can be seen as extreme (think Johnny Depp in Scissorhands).
Baskin left the stage uh, field to center himself and prepare for a successful photo shoot and an on screen interview with the host of Puppy Bowl. These solo shots are certainly his forte.
After a few days of rest and refocusing, Josh Baskin rose to the occasion yet again on October 29th when he traveled to New York City to appear in a Subaru commercial (they are the sponsors of Puppy Bowl). For this shoot, Baskin was all business. Seeing the cameras and lights and the brand new car, Baskin knew he must bring his A game. And he did!
The crew and the producers called upon Baskin time and time again to get a scene right, to show the other actors the way and to fill the shot with his handsome face. As reported correctly in Entertainment Tonite, even while taking a break, when Baskin saw his fellow talent on set, unable to understand their direction, he whimpered and cried until he was able to join them – yes, demonstrating what was needed for that particular scene, and yes, at times stealing it.
An exhausted Josh Baskin arrived back in Philadelphia after a 14 hour day – he toppled into his blankie on his favorite chaise lounge and was heard to whimper as sleep overtook him, "I did it all for Street Tails Animal Rescue. Without them, I would not be the STAR that I am today."
